Tabriz is the most populated city in northwest of the country that you must visit in your Iran trip. It has been historical capital of Iran in different eras and now it’s capital of East Azerbaijan province. It’s a major Iranian heavy industrial and manufacturing center including automobile, machine tools, oil and petrochemical and cement production. With a very rich history, Tabriz used to house many historical monuments, but wars and natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods have damaged many of them.
The city enjoys mild and fine climate in spring, dry and semi-hot in summer, humid and rainy in autumn and snowy cold in winter. The average annual temperature is 12 °C.
Tabriz is famous for its handicrafts, including hand-woven rugs and jewelry.
During the Qajar dynasty, Tabriz was used as residence center of Iranian Crown Prince (1794–1925).
There are remains of several historical monuments for visitors dating back to the Ilkhanates, Safavids, and the Qajars, such as Ark Alishah (1316-1335), Kabud Mosque (1465), Tabriz Bazaar, promenade El-Goli with its lake and building, city hall and some other interesting places.
The ark is the remains of a mausoleum and a castle in the center of Tabriz. It’s also known as Arg-e-Tabriz and dates back to about 700 years age. Wars and earthquakes have damaged the Arg but couldn’t destroy it compeletly. It’s the symbol of Tabriz.
Kabud Mosque, also known as Blue Mosque is a glorious mosque constructed in 1465. It was built by Jahan Shah, the ruler of Qara Qoyunlu dynasty. It was severely damaged in an earthquake but later it was reconstructed. However, the tiling is still incomplete.
Tabriz bazar is the biggest roofed bazaar of the world. It was built in 8th century. Many tourists from different countries have visited it in their Iran tour. One of the people who has visited it was Marco Polo. The bazaar has different beautiful parts. The most famous part of it is called (Timche Mozaffariye) which is one of the most beautiful and important parts of the bazaar. The bazaar has been registered as one of the world heritage sites by UNESCO.
