Iran Mountains

 

Having a trip to Iran can be an outstanding experience for those who are interested in mountain tourism. Iran is surrounded by soaring mountains on 4 sides which constitute about 55 percent of Iran's area. The four main mountain ranges around the country are: 1- Zagros (on the west side) 2- Alborz (on the north side) 3- Eastern mountains 4- Central mountains.

 

 

Zagros Mountain Range

 

Zagros is the largest and longest mountain range in Iran which stretches from West Azerbaijan to Strait of Hurmoz. Most of Iran's pastures are on mountainsides of Zagros mountain ranges. 2 of the most famous river of Iran, "Zayandeh Rood" and "Karoon" originate from these mountains. Ski resorts (e.g. Chelgerd ski resort), green landscapes, beautiful waterfalls, splendid meandering rivers and also incredible old castles and fortresses (e.g. Alamut fortress in Qazvin) built in these mountains are just some the attractions that absorbs many nature lovers to choose Iran tour.

 

 

      

 

 

 

Alborz Mountain Range

 

The northern mountains of Iran, stretching from Ardabil in northwest to Khorasan in northeast are about 950 kilo meters. The tallest point in the country is one of Alborz mountains, named "Damavand" (5671 meters) which is the destinations of professional mountain climber choosing Iran journey. The most prominent ski resorts in these mountains can be named as: "Shemshak", "Dizin", "Tochal", "Ab Ali" etc. which host thousands of winter tourist every year. The west parts of Alborz especially "Sahand" and "Sabalan"  are also well-known for the thermal springs coming from inside the ground.

 

 

    

 

 

Eastern Mountains

 

Eastern mountains of Iran connect Khorasan to the north of Sistan which is located in southeast of Iran. The dormant volcano of "Taftan" with the height of 3941 meters is the tallest mountain of this mountain range. "Troghabe" and "Shandiz" countryside with its pleasant weather in summer time attracts both Iranian and foreigner tourist. Those of you who have a journey to Persia and are interested in spa tourism can visit the thermal springs of Sistan (e.g. Bazman).

 

 

 

 

 

Central Mountains

 

Central mountain range in Iran connects East Azerbaijan to southeast of Iran (1460km). The tallest and most important mountains of it are: "Lalehzar" (4351 meters), "Joupar" (4233), and "Shirkooh" (4000 meters).
