In your journey to Persia you can experience being in a tranquilizing traditional environment by visiting tea houses. Tea houses are public places that generally serve hot drinks (especially tea), hookah and light meals. Tea houses take their root in the country's history and traditions. These public places were firstly established in Safavid era (about 400 years ago) and many European explorers have written about tea houses of Iran in their travel books. One of the primary functions of tea house in that time was to propagate Persian poetry and literature. These places were a public local for Naghals (storytellers), buskers, painters, puppeteers etc. to regale the people. "Naghali" (storytelling) and "Shahnameh Khani" (Shahnameh reading) was one of the famous traditions performed in tea house in which they would tell the famous stories of "Shahname", the famous book of Ferdowsi. Having a breakfast and drinking a cup of tea in a tea house can be an unforgettable memory in your Iran trip.
