Persian Philosophy

 

You can familiarize with Persian Philosophy and famous philosophers in your trip to Persia. Philosophy in Iran dates back to centuries ago. The history of philosophy in Iran began with Indo-Iranians (1500 BC). Iran's exposure to other countries invasion led to the emergence of different schools of thoughts like Manicheism and Mazdakism during different eras. The great Iranian scholars and philosophers in Iran like Avicena and Zakaria al-Razi who were experts in many fields such as astronomy, math, medicine etc. not only influenced the Islamic philosophy, but also affected the European philosophy.

 

 

 

Avicenna

 

Avicenna (in Farsi Abu Ali Sina), the famous Iranian philosopher and physician was born in 10th century. Avicenna was a genius in his childhood and showed a great talent in learning math, medicine etc. Later on as he grew up, became one of the most skillful doctors of the history and also wrote more than 200 volumes of book such as Ghanoon (which is a medical book), Esharat (philosophy), Daneshnameh Alayi (Logic) etc. some of which are still being taught in some universities around the world. Al-Farabi

 

Al-Farabi (10th century) was a philosopher, mathematician and astronomer who was called "Moalem ol-Sani" (the second teacher), as he wrote some valuable analysis of Aristotle's (renowned as "Moalem ol-Aval which means the first teacher) books. Some of his famous books can be named as: Ma ba'd ol-Tabie', Eghraz, Siasat ol-Madina etc. Al-Farabi who was commended by Avicenna as well, died in Damascus.

 

 

 

 

 

Al-Biruni

 

Al-Biruni was another Persian philosopher who was born in 973 AD in Khwarezm. He had a couple of trip to India and wrote some precious books. Al-Biruni was one of the scientists that believed the earth is spherical. Abu Reihan died in Ghazni (Afghanestan)

 

 

 

 

 

Muhammad ibn Zakariya al-Razi

 

Muhammad ibn Zakariya al-Razi, the Iranian physician who was the discoverer of alcohol, was born in 854 AD in city of Ray. He started to educate in fields of philosophy, medicine, math, chemistry and astronomy and later on became an expert in all of these subjects. For years his book,"Al-Havi" was an education reference in many universities. Razi who wrote over 56 volumes of book died in 925 in Ray city.
