Naghsh-e Jahan (or Imam) square is the most famous tourist destination in Isfahan which you can visit in your Iran trip. The square which was established by Shah Abbas, the most powerful Safavid monarch, is one of the vastest squares of the world (with 500 meters length and 165 meters width). In its heyday, the royal square have had different functions including: 1-Political, as Ali Qapu, the royal mansion is located on one side 2- Commercial, since Gheysarieh bazaar is positioned on north side of the square 3- Religious, because of the existence of 2 mosques around the square (Imam mosque and Sheikh Lotfollah mosque) and 4- Recreational, as important traditional ceremonies and games (e.g. polo)would be carried out in this area.
